Gleniffer High School Personal Statement

A teacher has been suspended over claims of inappropriate contact with a teenage pupil at a Paisley high school prom.

Renfrewshire Council chiefs confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the allegation following the Gleniffer High leavers’ dance.

The newly-qualified miss is alleged to have compromised her position at an after-party in a Glasgow Travelodge.

PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS: Live news as it happens

It is claimed that she got too close to an 18-year-old old student at the budget hotel following the bash at SWG3 in Glasgow last Wednesday.

The teacher, who is in her 20s, is at the end of a probationary year at the Amochrie Road school, and her contract with Renfrewshire Council is due to expire at the end of the month.

She is not expected to return to the classroom at the Paisley school after the summer holidays.

However, if it is proved that she did anything wrong it could end her career before it has had a chance to begin.

A council spokesman issued a statement explaining that they looking into the claim, insisting: “We can confirm that this matter is being investigated in line with council policy.”

Police also confirmed that they had received a complaint about the teacher but are not taking any action against her.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Paisley Daily Express: “We can confirm information was passed to Police Scotland regarding an incident involving a teacher at Gleniffer High School in Paisley.

“Following a full examination of the circumstances, no criminality was established.”

The Paisley Daily Express was unable to locate the teacher involved.

The School Day

After wide consultation Renfrewshire Council decided to change the structure of the school day at the start of session 2009-10. The change was to move from a 30 period week to a 33 period week. To allow for the three additional periods three days, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday would have seven periods whilst Wednesday and Friday would be shorter days.

The reason for making Monday and Tuesday longer should be obvious- we’re in a bad mood anyway because we’re back at work so we might as well get most of the bad stuff done at the start of the week. The shorter day on Wednesday allows staff to fly to away matches for Motherwell in the Champions League whilst the later stop on Thursday gets male staff in particular out of doing the late night shopping on Thursday. The early stop on Friday is designed to annoy the general public who think we get too many holidays and now we’re almost getting a half day on Friday.
